What is MUN ? 

Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. The participants role-play as diplomats representing a nation or NGO in a simulated session of a committee of the United Nations, such as the Security Council or the General Assembly. Participants research a country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to world problems.

 

During a conference, participants must employ a variety of communication and critical thinking skills in order to represent the policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, group communication, research, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, reaching consensus, conflict resolution, note taking, and technical writing. Model United Nations groups exist to develop these skills and are usually organized as a club, conference, or class.

 

IUSMUN will simulate ...

 

APSS is going to organize the simulation of the UN Security Council for the students of International University of Sarajevo.

The United Nations Security Council is the single body of the Organization tasked with the upkeep of peace and security transcending international boundaries. The UN Charter has special chapters in it that detail the intricacies towards the UN Security. Chapters V, VI, and VII are the most important towards the working of the committee. All decisions that showcase the power of the UN Security Council, those enforceable ones especially have to be under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. Being the most important body of the UN system means the UN Security Council is always under constant scrutiny of the outcome documents, i.e., resolutions, presidential statements and the like.

 

We hope the IUSMUN Security Council simulation shall highlight the right decisions being taken to defuse the crises at hand.

 

 

Delegates

 

This simulation will have 15 delegates since that is the exact number of member states of the UN Security Council:  China, France, Russian Federation, United Kingdom, United States, Angola, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Senegal, Spain, Ukraine, Uruguay and Venezuela.

 

 

Chairs

 

Models of United Nations usually do have two chairs: chair and co-chair. Those are the students who already have experience in the Models of United Nations and who know the procedures very well.
